Rules Don't Apply

The fashion industry really is an ever-evolving world, and with this constant element of change comes new styles, concepts, and ideas... most of which break down the barriers of the common ideas of the past. As firm believers in the freedom of personal style, we stand strong on the idea that rules don't apply! We should all wear what we want, when we want, how we want, right?! Believe it or not, in past decades people adhered to extremely strict rules and regulations when it came to acceptable fashion statements. You are probably familiar with many of them. We are here today to break down these "Fashion Don'ts" gone "Fashion Do's" and give you a few pointers on how to pull off these major style statements.

1. Denim on Denim

This particular style does have its limits... There is no need to pull a total Britney Spears / Justin Timberlake stunt, but this bold statement can definitely be pulled off in your own toned-down way. Keep a relaxed feel and stick with different shades of denim to avoid a harsh jean-overload. You can be a total denim daredevil!

2. Groutfits

Grey on grey is totally ay-okay! Like we said, monochrome is in and perfect for spring! We especially love grey knits! So, grab a light-weight sweater and pair it with a grey skirt for a perfect springtime office look. Go all out grey with a fabulous pair of pumps or take a risk and add a pop of color! You will look totally chic.

3. Socks and Sandals

Not going to lie, this statement was a bit hard to accept at first, but now there is no denying that we are completely head-over-heels for this look. You will see us both sporting socks with our springtime sandals on a weekly basis. Try rocking your simple black pumps with some frilly white socks (yes, just like the ones you wore when you were five) for a demure and sophisticated look, or try some some wild hosiery and strut down the street like you mean it!

4. Navy and Black

This color combo can be tricky, don't we know it, but you should never be afraid to take that plunge into something new. As long as there is a distinct contrast to the shades, this combo can really be transformed into any style! Dark colors are okay to wear in spring. Nobody will judge you. If you do want to lighten the look, try adding gold tones with accents of olive green to really mix it up.

5. White After Labor Day

This really is one of the oldest rules in the book, but rules were meant to be broken right?? With white taking over the Fall/Winter runways, it has become a year-round statement. We love winter whites because they are such a refreshing sight in the midst of such a gloomy season. Yes, off-white and white are okay to wear together, too. Accessorize this look with like tones (think tan and grey) to keep the look fresh. Just be sure to avoid coffee that day or you may be a very unhappy camper.

When it comes to the rulebook, we'll stand by you while you throw it into the fire and watch it burn like last semester's Algebra textbook. There is no calculation for the perfect outfit. It should not be construc by anyone else's guidelines.  Your very own style rules are what make your outfits truly you. Three cheers for fashion anarchy! (Hip Hip Horray)
